Tips for Using FreeAgents!
The people that participate the most on the site are the ones that make the most connections, gain the most visibility, and end up getting the most out of the site. Here are a few tips:
1) The search bar in the upper right corner is great! Type in a company name, city, or anything else to quickly search through people's profiles.
2) Join (and create) groups to focus your networking on people with similar backgrounds. Groups have their own message boards and discussion lists, so it's easy to stay in touch!
3) Upload your resume on the 'My Page' section so that people can easily get a full picture of your experiences.
4) Fill out as much info as possible on your profile so that people searching for specific terms can find you. Consider copying/pasting parts of your resume onto the 'About me' section.
5) Add a picture to your account so that discussions are more personalized and effective.
6) Introduce yourself on the forums ('What's your story' is a good place to start) and post often to create a reputation and credibility for yourself.
7) Any time you hear about a job opening that doesn't quite fit you, post it on the site! You're helping the entire community, and also, people that got a job because of you are very likely to do their best to help you find something in their company or through friends.
